THE appointment of former Scotsman editor, John McLellan, as the new director of communications for the Scottish Tories is greeted enthusiastically by the Scottish Daily Express diarist, Hickey.
Today’s column – which goes by the strapline, In Gossipus Veritas, and is usually pretty fantastical – starts by saying that, in ‘his day’, the job was “hardly taxing”, ending around 3.30pm, “which may be why they soon dispensed with my services”.
Hickey continues: “I am told that the cheery Mc McL is a v hard taskmaster, however, just what the rabble need: backbone, grit and bared teeth.”
