THE Press and Journal leads its front page today with the story about Justice Secretary, Kenny MacAskill’s deliberations on creating either a single force or three or four regionalised police authorities.
However, the P&J quotes Grampian Chief Constable, Colin McKerracher, saying there is not a “shred of evidence” that a single force would be the best option, and Northern Constabulary Chief Constable, Ian Latimer, adding it would be over-simplistic and “dangerous” to assume that a suggested saving of almost £200 million in policing costs could be made.
And the accompanying heading? Well, of course….’Forces not with you, police warn MacAskill’.
