The Diary in The Herald took delight in a correction from the Motherwell Times, which it reprinted in full:
“Age correction – Last week we published a golden wedding story on the McGinns of Jerviston. It was reported that Jane and Tommy’s son Tommy was 50 when he is in fact 49. We apologise for any offence caused.”
Said diarist, Ken Smith: “You wouldn’t think the Motherwell Times would have to apologise for saying someone was 50 instead of 40 – until you realise it’s a golden wedding anniversary. Wouldn’t want people to think it was a ‘huv tae’.”
Meanwhile, yesterday's Sunday Herald was afflicted by headline gremlins, accompanying a story about a Midlothian-based personal finance website said to be in talks with investors.
