On 23 July 2014, the XX Commonwealth Games will open in Glasgow, Scotland, drawing together over 6,500 athletes and officials from 71 nations, competing in 17 sports across 11 days of competition.
The Glasgow 2014 Organising Committee is committed to ensuring that these Games are delivered successfully in an athlete cantered and sport focused way, highlighting the best athletic talent that our Commonwealth has to offer.
Our Media Team has a requirement for an experienced individual to work as a Press Officer covering maternity leave from 3.12.12 – 31.5.13. The successful candidate will work to proactively implement communication and media strategies which engage, excite, inform and inspire audiences in Scotland and the rest of the UK.
The Press Officer will work as part of a small team taking responsibility for media enquiries, providing official statements and comments when requested and providing media guidance to colleagues. This role will include responsibilities such as sponsor launches and activation as well as engaging with media on areas of high public interest including ticketing and volunteering. The successful candidate will also be required to build positive relationships in a diverse range of areas from commercial to cultural.
Applicants should have excellent communication skills and be able to work effectively with internal and external stakeholders, as well as media in Scotland, across the UK and internationally.
This role is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with extensive experience of working in a media or PR environment. The successful individual will have well developed relationship building and relationship management skills, and will be able to demonstrate success in developing and delivering PR campaigns in a dynamic environment.
It is also essential that the Press Officer has an excellent knowledge and understanding of the current Scottish political and economic environment.
