SCOTS journalists, Melanie Reid and Gordon Smart, have been shortlisted in this year’s British Press Awards.
The awards have Reid, who writes for The Times, up against four contenders in the Columnist of the Year (broadsheet) category.
At last year’s Scottish Press Awards, Reid was named Journalist of the Year. In April two years ago, she suffered serious spinal injuries following a horseriding accident. Still in rehab and working from home, she is, she says, “typing stubbornly with one finger”.
Meanwhile, Smart – editor of The Sun’s Bizarre column – is in the running for the Showbiz Writer of the Year prize.
The winners will be announced on the 20th of next month.
Next week, a second tranche of nominations will be announced: the newspaper ones.
