THE editor of the Sunday Herald and The National newspapers has been named Editor of the Year at a media awards ceremony held by the titles’ publishers, UK-wide.

Richard Walker was named the winner at the internal event run by Newsquest, with the Sunday Herald also named Newspaper of the Year.

The winners were:

Publishing centre: Worcester

Newspaper: Sunday Herald

Senior advertising manager: Caroline Smith, Stourbridge

Editor: Richard Walker

Sales executive: Emma Liley, Kendal

Journalist: Samantha Harman, Weymouth

Photojournalist: Simon Dack, Brighton

Innovator: Jenny Thompson, North-east England

Unsung hero: Howie Blanks, Brighton

MOST of The Scotsman’s page three today is given over to an article about World Press Photo of the Year – won by Danish photographer, Mads Nissen.

The winning picture was an intimate scene of a gay couple in Russia.

CONGRATULATIONS to the DC Thomson title, The Scots Magazine, which – according to latest official figures – registered an year-on-year increase in its print-only circulation throughout the UK and the Republic of Ireland.

Says auditors, ABC, the title’s average 25,109 print-only circulation for the 12 months up to December last year was up two per cent on 12 months’ previously.

Most of the Scots titles identified saw their year-on-year print circulations fall.
