NOT for the first time, every one of the main national daily and Sunday newspapers available in Scotland has experienced dips in their their latest year-on-year sales figures in the country.
Figures released on Friday by the newspapers circulation body, ABC, concern average sales during December the year before last versus those from last month.
In summary, they read, as follows:
Daily Mirror – 11.8 per cent drop = from 17,545 on average during December 2013, to 15,466 last month;
Daily Record – 10.7 per cent drop = from 216,088 on average during December 2013, to 192,922 last month;
Daily Star of Scotland – 16.3 per cent drop = 46,391 to 38,792;
The Scottish Sun – 8.7 per cent drop = 248,459 to 226,883;
Scottish Daily Express – 13.5 per cent drop = 52,698 to 45,561;
Scottish Daily Mail – 3.4 per cent drop = 92,754 to 89,595;
Daily Telegraph – 11.2 per cent drop = 17,394 to 15,445;
Financial Times – 10.2 per cent drop = 2,407 to 2,160;
The Guardian – 10.9 per cent drop = 10,280 to 9,157;
i – 7.9 per cent drop = 18,409 to 16,962;
Independent – 9.6 per cent drop = 2,804 to 2,534; and
The Times – one per cent drop = 18,150 to 17,969.
Meanwhile, the Sunday titles’ sales figures in Scotland were as follows:
Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday – 18.4 per cent down = 25,782 to 21,035;
The Scottish Sun – Sunday – 11.2 per cent down = 179,781 to 159,640;
Sunday Mail – 13.7 per cent down = 246,719 to 212,972;
Sunday Mirror – 11 per cent down = 17,211 to 15,317;
The People – nine per cent down = 9,228 to 8,401;
Scottish Mail on Sunday – 5.9 per cent down = 82,601 to 77,716;
Scottish Sunday Express – 12 per cent down = 29,751 to 26,192;
The Sunday Post – 10.7 per cent down = 156,695 to 139,923;
Independent on Sunday – 6.5 per cent down = 5,056 to 4,725;
The Observer – 13.4 per cent down = 14,119 to 12,221;
Sunday Telegraph – 10.1 per cent down = 15,346 to 13,788; and
Sunday Times – five per cent down = 44,743 to 42,503.
