THE Glasgow-based media and marketing magazine, The Drum, has been named among the winners at awards celebrating the best of smaller, independent magazine publishers – with its publisher and editor, Gordon Young, also among the prizes.
The magazine has been named Media Brand of the Year at the PPA Independent Publisher Awards, with Young (pictured) chosen as Editor of the Year.
Earlier this year, The Drum was named Business Magazine of the Year at the PPA Magazine of the Year Awards.
In a statement issued on Friday by the magazine, following his magazine’s most recent triumph, Young is quoted, as saying: “We really are chuffed to get this recognition.
“It’s a cliché, but I feel a bit of a fraud picking up the award for Editor of the Year. The reality is that my superb team deserve the credit – not only for winning the main PPA [Business] Magazine of the Year award, and today’s recognition, but also for building the best-read marketing website in the UK.”
The statement continues: “From its base on the Gallowgate, The Drum has grown from a long-established regional magazine into the leading marketing industry publication in the UK.
“2013 has been a year of continued growth for The Drum as it opened its first London office, welcomed a number of new faces to its editorial team and increased unique visitors to thedrum.com by 70 per cent according to year-on-year statistics.
“At a time when other publishers are cutting back, The Drum’s team looks set to grow even further in 2014 as it looks to add three new staff to the editorial team to meet the increasing demand for its web and print journalism.”
