A MUSICAL celebrating the iconic Jackie magazine is being staged in Dundee, the city where it used to be published.
Jackie The Musical is being staged at the Gardyne Theate, between September 18 and October 5, and it is to be sponsored by the city’s daily newspaper, The Courier, which is published by DC Thomson, which used to produce Jackie until its closure in 1993.
In a DC Thomson media release, Courier assistant editor, Catriona MacInnes, is quoted, as saying: “We are delighted to be sponsoring Jackie The Musical.
“In its heyday Jackie the magazine was a must-read for a whole generation the length and breadth of the country. That generation has grown up and many are now Courier readers and I am convinced they will love the musical as much as they loved their Jackie.
“The Courier is proud to support a local production with a national cast which will, hopefully, go on to become an international success.”
Adds the release: “The production tells the story of a recent divorcee who seeks advice on how to get a boyfriend from the pages of her old Jackie magazines. She follows the quizzes, the fashion tips and the ‘do’s and don’ts on a first date’ and of course the ‘Cathy and Claire’ problem pages.”
