THE relationship between the Media, Faith and the State, ‘post Leveson’, will be at the centre of a discussion to be held in Edinburgh next week.
A panel, made up of both media professionals and academics – including journalist Ian Macwhirter – will answer questions and lead the discussion, which could include topics such as recent claims made against the Roman Catholic Church in Scotland.
The event is being co-hosted by the Royal Society of Arts, Manufactures and Commerce (RSA) and the Centre for Theology and Public Issues (CTPI) at the University of Edinburgh.
Ann Packard, chair of the RSA Fellows’ Media, Creative Industries, Culture and Heritage Network said the event will reference “the inter-relationships of the Media, Faith institutions and the State in the period since the Leveson Inquiry or indeed State intervention in church issues and vice versa”.
Speakers at the event will also include former BBC World Service journalist and Professor of Communications, Arts and Religion, Professor Jolyon Mitchell and chair of the BBC Scottish Religious Advisory Committee and Professor of Islamic and Interreligious Studies, Professor Mona Sidduqui.
The event will take place at the University of Edinburgh’s School of Divinity, Mound Place, a week tomorrow, at 6pm.
