THE former captain of the Scotland men’s football team, Graeme Souness, has signed for the Scottish edition of The Sunday Times, as a columnist.
A former manager of Rangers, Liverpool and Blackburn Rovers, among others, he will be tomorrow giving his verdict on managers, Alex Ferguson, Neil Lennon and Jose Mourinho, as he previews next week’s Champion League clashes, Celtic versus Juventus and Manchester United versus Real Madrid. He will be also sharing his insights into the pressures of being an Old Firm manager.
It’s understood the column will often run also in the UK edition of the paper.
In a statement, Jason Allardyce, Scottish editor of The Sunday Times, said: “We are thrilled that Graeme has decided to join our team.
“He has a remarkable wealth of experience to draw on as a player and manager at the top levels of Scottish, English and European football, and is widely respected for his no-nonsense attitude towards the game.
“Graeme is a fantastic signing and will complement the insights offered by Hugh McIlvanney and Douglas Alexander.”
The announcement follows the news that the paper’s publisher, News International, has secured the UK rights to screen clips of the Barclays Premier League for the next three seasons.
From August, these will be available exclusively to NI customers, online as well as via mobile devices.
