A MEDIA awards competition recognising ‘the best farming and rural affairs coverage’ in a regional newspaper has issued a call for entries.
Says the British Guild of Agricultural Journalists, the annual Stuart Seaton Award “celebrates consistently high-quality reporting by regional newspapers of the issues that affect agriculture, other rural businesses and the people who work in the countryside”.
In a Guild media release, secretary, Louise Impey, is quoted, as saying: “Regional publications that devote some of their pages to farming and rural affairs coverage provide an important role in keeping non-farming readers and rural communities informed about the national and local issues that may affect their lives and livelihoods.
“We are keen to celebrate that role by attracting as many entries as possible for this award and judging who provided the best coverage in 2012.”
Recent winners include Joe Watson, editor of The Press and Journal’s farming pages; Peter Hall, for his farming and rural affairs coverage in Western Morning News; and Heather Jones, who writes for Shropshire Newspapers. Jones was the winner last year.
