THE head of Johnston Press in the north-east of England has been named head of the publisher’s Scotland operation.
Stuart Birkett has been named managing director of the publisher’s Scotland ‘unit’, which includes The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday, the Edinburgh Evening News and several Scots local newspapers, except a small number in the Scottish Borders, which are part of the North-east England ‘unit’.
It follows the departure of Andrew Richardson, which allmediascotland.com yesterday reported as likely to be confirmed today.
Says a staff memo issued by Johnston Press chief executive, Ashley Highfield: “We have today informed the Scotland Publishing Unit staff that Andrew Richardson is leaving his position as managing director for the Scotland Publishing Unit.
“Andrew has been within the company for over five years and has held the role of MD for the last two-and-a-half years. We wish Andrew well for the future and thank him for his significant contribution to the business.”
Adds the memo, Birkett has been succeeded in the north-east of England by Stephen Plews.
