A RELATIVE lack of transfer market activity in Scottish men’s football has prompted one writer to reflect warmly and humorously on the time when “every day was transfer story day”.
Hugh MacDonald, chief sports writer on The Herald, looks back to the days before players could be transferred only at certain times of the year, including a January ‘window’.
And it wasn’t just the opportunity to write every day about possible and actual transfers of players that has MacDonald waxing lyrical, but the language that accompanied it; for instance, clubs “always [being] set to swoop”.
