A FORMER literary editor of Scotland on Sunday newspaper – and still a regular writer for it and sister title, The Scotsman – has reportedly been named a member of the Man Booker Prize for Fiction judging panel.
Says today’s Scotsman, freelance writer and author, Stuart Kelly, will be joining BBC presenter, Martha Kearney; broadcaster and writer, Natalie Haynes; and biographer and academic, Robert Douglas-Fairhurst; with the panel being chaired by author and Cambridge academic, Robert Macfarlane.
Kelly is quoted in today’s Scotsman, as saying: “It’s an immense honour to have been asked to be a judge for the 2013 Man Booker Prize, especially under Robert Macfarlane’s chairmanship.”
Kelly is author of ‘The Book of Lost Books’ and ‘Scott-land: The Man Who Invented a Nation’, the latter about Scots novelist, Walter Scott.
He writes also for, among others, The Guardian, Scottish Field and The Times. He also mentors students on a creative writing course at Edinburgh Napier University. He was literary editor at SoS until October last year.
Adds The Scotsman, he is currently writing a book about religion.
