THE role of the Press in the upcoming referendum on Scotland’s constitutional future is to be discussed by the former editor of The Scotsman, Magnus Linklater, and the freelance journalist daughter of the late Herald editor, Arnold Kemp, who has recently completed an anthology of her father’s writing.
Linklater, more recently Scotland editor of The Times, and Jackie Kemp are appearing at the National Library of Scotland, in Edinburgh, to talk on the subject, ‘A national Press is an indispensable part of nationhood’.
Says the NLS: “[They] will discuss the importance of the Scottish Press to the country in the past and look at the implications of its decline, in the context of Scotland’s increasing divergence from England and the forthcoming referendum on independence.”
Arnold Kemp was editor of The Herald for 14 years and deputy editor The Scotsman for nine.
The referendum on Scottish independence is taking place in two years’ time.
The anthology is titled, ‘Confusion to our Enemies: selected journalism of Arnold Kemp (1939-2002)’, and is published by NWP.
