THE deputy editor of the Scottish Sunday Express has been made editor.
Ben Borland succeeds Derek Lambie, who left the newspaper earlier this year after ten years at the helm.
Borland has been deputy editor since May four years ago and has been in charge of the day-to-day running of the paper since Lambie’s departure. Lambie took voluntary redundancy as the paper’s owners sought to reduce the number of editorial staff.
Borland has worked at local, regional and national level on both sides of the Border and his previous job in Scotland was with the Edinburgh Evening News.
He told allmediascotland.com: “I’m very grateful for the opportunity to take charge of such a great Scottish newspaper at such a fascinating time in the country’s history.
“We have a first rate team here at the Sunday Express in Glasgow and I’m really looking forward to getting on with the job of standing up for Scotland.
“In recent months, we have campaigned to save the Scottish regiments and launched a drive to get tough on crime that has been hugely popular with readers.
“I’ve loved every minute of my time as acting editor and I’m delighted to have been confirmed in the post full time.”
