THE front pages of both the Daily Record and The Scottish Sun are united today in reporting alleged fury on the part of Rangers FC manager, Ally McCoist, at BBC Scotland.
The story also makes the front page of the Daily Star of Scotland (pictured).
It follows a trailer for Wednesday evening’s live BBC TV coverage of Rangers’ League Cup clash with Motherwell. A silhouetted McCoist is shown falling, in the style of the US drama, Mad Men.
Says The Sun – across its pages four and five – there is a second alleged slur: “…last night it emerged the club was also left raging at a BBC Radio Scotland jibe at McCoist on its flagship comedy footy show, Off the Ball. During Saturday’s programme a discussion called ‘Super Ally or Fat Sally’ asked if Light Blues fans still backed the boss. A club insider revealed: ‘Ally is furious at this double attack.'”
The Record, which also reports the radio dimension to the story, quotes a BBC spokesperson as saying: “It was a creative attempt to set up the clash between Motherwell and Rangers.
“We accept that the creative animation, however well intentioned, may not have appealed to everyone but we would like to stress that there was no intention to cause any offence.”
