THE Aberdeen-based regional daily newspaper, the Press and Journal, has enjoyed an increase in its average sale in Scotland since December last year.
According to the Audit Bureau of Circulation, its average sale in Scotland during the six months leading up to the end of June stood at 68,659, up 1.3 per cent on six months previously.
However, in common with the other daily regionals in Scotland, its year-on-year sales percentage was down. Compared to June last year, its current sale was down 3.4 per cent.
Among the other daily regionals in Scotland, the figures issued by the ABC – as part of its half-yearly regional newspapers report issued at midday today – the Edinburgh Evening News, the Evening Express and the Evening Times each experienced a double-digit percentage drop, year-on-year.

On Monday, the Paisley Daily Express was relaunched with a new look, columnists, etc.
Earlier this month, it was reported The Herald and the Sunday Herald are to be included in the next set of regional newspaper results, no longer being classified ‘national’. The average sale in Scotland for The Herald during the month of June alone was 44,283.
In the meantime, the average sales in Scotland of its so-called regional dailies, for the six months leading up to the end of June, are as follows:
Evening Express – 43,067 – down 2.2 per cent compared to the average leading up to December last year, and down ten per cent, year-on-year;
Press and Journal – 68,659 – up 1.3 per cent and down 3.4 per cent;
Dundee Courier – 56,243 – down 5.9 per cent and down 9.3 per cent;
Evening Times – 22,496 – down 1.8 per cent and 4.8 per cent;
Edinburgh Evening News – 35,611 – down 4.4 per cent and 10.9 per cent;
Evening Times – 45,942 – down 6.4 per cent and 12.3 per cent;
Greenock Telegraph – 13,470 – down 3.2 per cent and 6.1 per cent; and
Paisley Daily Express – 6,887 – down 3.5 per cent and 8.6 per cent.
