TV contracts with Scottish football are on the brink of being signed – according to The Herald newspaper.
Says chief football writer, Michael Grant, satellite broadcasters, Sky, “will have the rights to 30 games” in the Scottish Premier League, while ESPN “would have 35 live games”, also in the SPL.
And – pending the Scottish Football Association granting permission to newco. Rangers to play in the Third Division, following their recent liquidation – there is a possible deal looming between the TV channels and the Scottish Football League.
Writes Grant: “The television deal is agreed in principle but cannot be signed until [newco. Rangers’ owners] Sevco Scotland Ltd’s application for the transfer of Rangers’ SFA membership is approved. That needs to happen before the club can play its first match at Brechin City in the Ramsdens Cup on Sunday afternoon.”
Says The Scottish Sun – also today – Rangers “could be finally awarded SFA membership for ONE DAY”.
It adds: “[Manager] Ally McCoist’s men are set to land a conditional licence to face Brechin in a televised Ramsdens Cup clash on Sunday. Then it will be taken back off them before talks continue next week. That is one of the options being considered by football chiefs as the stormy wrangle over the club’s membership of the SFA rages on.”
