THE director of the Scottish Newspaper Society is to retire.
Jim Raeburn began his involvement in the newspaper industry when he was appointed director of the Scottish Newspaper Publishers’ Association, which represented local newspapers, in 1984.
He had previously been with an electrical contractors trade association.
In 1996, he was invited to become director of the Scottish Daily Newspaper Society, which, January two years, ago merged with the SNPA to become the SNS.
He is set to retire in June, but he will be continuing in his separate roles as secretary and treasurer of the body, PressBof, that funds the Press Complaints Commission – perhaps until such time as the PCC is revamped or wound up in the wake of the Leveson Inquiry into press standards.
The SNS post is being advertised tomorrow in The Scotsman and The Herald newspapers.
He told allmediascotland.com: “I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time, pressing the case for the industry, with a number of successes. I’ve found the people in the industry great to work with.”
