A DOUBLE-page spread is being devoted today in the Daily Record to tee up the first column tomorrow, by the paper’s most recent recruit: Joan McAlpine MSP.
McAlpine – a former Record columnist and feature writer – signed off from The Scotsman last week, for whom she penned a weekly column.
Says the Labour-leaning Record today: “Famed for her passion for social justice and her no-nonsense attitude to politics, Joan, who is a list MSP for South of Scotland, will be making the case for why she feels Scotland would be better off as an independent nation. In the build-up to the constitutional referendum scheduled for the autumn of 2014, the Daily Record will be playing a key role in the national debate.”
The column is to be titled, ‘Joan McAlpine: An independent woman’.
She is quoted, as saying: “The Daily Record’s commitment to social issues is very important, and editor Allan Rennie has made his mark campaigning for social issues. We all want a more successful, fair and equal country where everyone shares the success.”
