THE north edition of this week’s Sunday Herald is to include a magazine dedicated to hillwalking in Scotland.
The second issue of Scottish Walks – edited by arguably Scotland’s best-known hillwalker, Cameron McNeish – is to be also available, for free, in over 500 outlets including camping and outdoor shops and climbing centres throughout Scotland, including in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dundee.
In total, the quarterly magazine – which was launched in November – has a circulation of 50,000, supported by digital edition – www.scottishwalks.com – which can be read on the iPad, iPhone and other mobile devices.
It is being published by the Herald & Times Group, publishers of the Sunday Herald, as well as The Herald and the Evening Times. The Sunday Herald’s north edition – covering Aberdeen, Inverness and the Highlands and Islands – will be giving away 10,000 copies of the magazine.
In a Herald & Times Group statement, publisher, Darren Bruce, is quoted, as saying: “Since the launch of the magazine, the feedback from readers, advertisers and contributors has been fantastic.
“Scottish Walks has identified a niche in the market which serves its readers well on what is beautiful around our Scottish landscapes combined with the compelling motivation to get active and keep healthy. The brand delivers a huge 200,000 readership for our commercial partners and since our launch issue we have seen digital and print subscription uptake in the thousands, which is quite incredible.”
