A HERALD & Times Group manager has been chosen as the only British member of the elite band of 20 referees for this year’s London Olympics indoor volleyball competition.
Brian McDougall, a press shift manager at the group’s Cambuslang print plant, will oversee the volleyball events at Earl’s Court from July 28-August 12.
He received the invitation from the International Volleyball Federation in Switzerland.
McDougall began playing volleyball at a club run by local PE teachers in Cambuslang some 30 yaears ago and qualified as an international referee in 1998.
In a Herald & Times Group statement, managing director, Tim Blott, is quoted, as saying: “This is a great honour for Brian which is well deserved after a great deal of work. Everyone at the Herald & Times Group wishes him well.”
McDougall won’t, however, be starring back home in 2014: volleyball is not one of the Commonwealth Games sports.
