Innovators and their innovations in both business and technology are the subject of a new, bi-monthly Scots magazine.
With a print run of 10,000 and available for free, Innovator Scotland's publishers are David Hughes and Barry Shafe, while its editor is Peter Barr.
Says Hughes, who was sales manager of Scottish Business Insider magazine for the last ten years: “What sets Innovator Scotland apart from other general business-to-business magazines is that it has a very specific focus – to encourage innovators and innovation right across Scotland.
“Business people don't generally read specialist magazines and academics don't generally read business magazines, Innovator Scotland will bridge the gaps and bring their worlds together, stimulating greater awareness at home and abroad of how academia can help drive and expand business, through start-ups, spin outs and ongoing product and service development and how the needs of industry and business can drive further research and development, thereby helping all Scottish businesses become successful international players.”
The October-November issue of the magazine features several well-known innovators in Scotland, including the Chief Scientific Advisor for Scotland, Anne Glover, angel investor John Waddell, biotechnology entrepreneur Andy Porter, innovation 'guru' James Fleck and the outgoing chair of CBI Scotland, Linda Urquhart.
Barr has produced the Science Scotland magazine for the Royal Society of Edinburgh for the last six years and written reports for Scottish Government’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Schools Science Summit, the Digital Communications Knowledge Transfer Network and for scientific and medical conferences.
Between 1980 and 2000, when he was based in South-East Asia, he was, among other things, editor of Computer Asia and Asia-Pacific Broadcasting & Telecommunications and group editor of Asian Business Press, the Singapore-based trade publications group. In 1990, he co-founded a PR consultancy specialising in IT clients.
