A BOOK written by Scotland on Sunday’s chief sports writer, Tom English, is to be turned into a movie.
The Grudge tells the story of the rugby Grand Slam decider of 1990: England are overwhelming favourites, Scotland are led to on to the park by their captain, David Sole – with steely, walking determination – and the rest is history.
Reports film magazine, Empire, the film will be directed by Simon Egan, a co-prodcuer of the Oscar-winning, The King’s Speech. Also co-producing is Evan Leighton-Davis.
A release date has still to be announced.
The process began in July when Egan contacted English’s agent, Mark Stanton of Edinburgh-based Jenny Brown Associates.
English told allmediascotland.com: “It’s wonderfully surreal to have the people behind The King’s Speech interested in making a film of The Grudge. Simon is an Oscar-winning co-producer who also happens to be a great bloke and a big rugby man. Evan, the same. They came up to see me in Edinburgh and we got on brilliantly. I’m delighted that we’ve moved on to the next stage. There’s a long way to go yet but it’s hugely exciting.”
Earlier this year, The Grudge was chosen Rugby Book of the Year at the British Sports Book Awards.
