A photography exhibition charting the daily lives of homeless Big Issue in Scotland vendors launched at BBC Scotland last night.
The ‘Eyes of the Street’ exhibition, organised by the International Network of Street Papers (INSP), saw American photojournalist, David Burnett, and his ‘Photographers for Hope’ team work with six vendors on the streets of Glasgow.
Unveiled at BBC Scotland HQ at Pacific Quay, in Glasgow, the exhibition features work by both street paper vendors and professional photographers keen to capture the experiences of the homeless in photographs and film.
In an interview with Street News Service, the news agency of the INSP, Burnett is quoted as saying: “I could walk out on the street with my camera right now and I don’t know what I’d get, so it’s hard to try and imagine what another person could be doing.
“But when we were going through all the pictures and deciding what to keep for the exhibition, it was tough because there were many more great, symbolic pictures than we would have expected from any kind of group that was just starting out.
“You can never have too many good pictures and in this case we were really happy to see how much we were able to land.”
Weekly news and lifestyle magazine, The Big Issue in Scotland, will today discover how it has fared in two categories in this year’s INSP Awards.
The Glasgow-based title is among the nominees for both ‘Best Feature’ and ‘Best Design’.
