The Scottish Press Photographers Association is to hold its first major exhibition.
Taking place at the Glasgow venue, the Hidden Lan Gallery, the exhibition will double up as a showcase of the best of Scottish photography plus a fundraiser for two charities.
And the call has gone out for photographs to be featured.
Says a SPPA media release: “This is the first group show of the Scottish Press Photographers’ Association, and as such will be filled with rarely-seen gems from the archives of the many photographers whose job it is to record life in our country, including the celebrities and politicians, and the criminals and sportspeople who appear on our radar during major newsworthy events.”
The top floor of the gallery is to be devoted exclusively to photographs of the Red Road Flats in Glasgow.
And, again, submissions are being requested.
Adds the media release: “With their demolition under way, this is a collation of photographs showing the impact of this steel framed housing scheme on both the lives and the landscape of the city during the half-century since they were conceived. Famous from the time of their construction as the tallest flats in Europe, they later inspired a Cannes Jury award-winning film. They are now ending their lifespan in notoriety as a ghetto for asylum seekers.”
A cut of print sales will be split between Medicins Sans Frontiers and Leukemia Research.
The judging panel includes deputy picture editor at The Scotsman, Alex Hewitt.
