A media awards competition celebrating the best of the UK's regional press has attracted more than 750 entries.
Say the competition organisers, the Society of Editors, entries were being registered on the awards website at the rate of one a minute during the final 36 hours before the deadline on Tuesday.
The first stage of judging is now about to begin.
In a statement, the Society says: “The awards celebrate the best of British regional newspaper journalism during 2010. Shortlists will be published early next month. Newspaper consultant and designer Peter Sands is chairing the judges.”
The winners will be announced on May 11.
