McConigley Made Editorial Manager for Clyde and Forth Media

The newspaper group behind some of the best-known regional newspaper titles in the country has promoted one of its own staff to the post of editorial manager.

Clyde and Forth Media – which includes the Greenock Telegraph, the Dumbarton Reporter, the East Lothian Courier and the Dunfermline Press in its portfolio – have promoted Tom McConigley to its number one editorial position in the company.

The 34 year-old will now take sole charge of editorial and circulation on all Clyde and Forth's titles across Scotland, which together attract some 300,000 readers.

McConigley told allmediascotland: “There's some stuff I've got coming up over the next few months that promises to be very innovative and exciting. We've got a great team and I look forward to leading them.”

McConigley won the title for Fastest Growing Weekly Newspaper at the Newspaper Society Awards five years ago when he took the sales of the Paisley Gazette from 10,000 to over 12,000 in the space of just two years. This was his first job as an editor.

He then followed that up, four years ago, with the Newsagents Association Daily Newspaper of the Year, after taking the reins at the Greenock Telegraph.

The group comprises 15 titles: Dumbarton Reporter, Clydebank Post, Paisley and Renfrewshire Gazette Series, Helensburgh Advertiser, Greenock Telegraph, Ayr Advertiser Series, Cumnock Chronicle, Largs and Milport News, Irvine Times, Ardrossan and Saltcoats Herald, Dunfermline Press, Alloa Advertiser, Borders Telegraph, Peeblesshire News and East Lothian Courier.

All the editors in the group now report to him. He was formerly Greenock Telegraph editor and then editorial manager for Clyde and Forth's west of Scotland's titles.

Most recently, he has launched a hyperlocal website, www.eastwoodmercury.co.uk, which serves the areas of Newton Mearns, Clarkston and Giffnock and has gained 3000 subscribers in 12 months.
