A news website catering for rock and metal music fans has been launched this week by a former Daily Record journalist.
RockAAA.com has been set up by Martin Kielty, who has been with the Record a total of 15 years and also has a long association with the music industry, having managed rock groups, the Sensational Alex Harvey Band and Rezillos.
Since leaving the Record two years ago, he has freelanced for, among others, The Scotsman and the Sunday Post newspapers.
Kielty has designed the service to meet the needs of what he believes is a market that has not been adequately represented by the media thus far.
He said: “Despite the racist and bigoted caricature of the hairy-arsed biker, we know our audience is principally ABC1. People with successful lives, marriages, careers, mortgages, partners and kids … And yet, no mainstream publication wants this affluent audience.”
Speaking to allmediascotland.com, Kielty added: “We want to encourage people to look at rock journalism in a new way.”
The project has principally been funded by Rock Radio, part of the GMG Radio group responsible for the Real Radio and Smooth Radio brands.
