The publisher of The Herald newspaper has warned its advertisers about potential credit card fraud.
The Herald & Times Group, which also publishes the Sunday Herald and Evening Times, has issued an alert through in-paper advertisements, pointing out: “It has been brought to our attention that advertisers in Scottish newspapers are being targeted by persons making false claims that newspaper accounts departments have been unable to process credit card transactions and require the details again.
“We wish to protect our advertisers against credit card fraud and would advise all advertisers to be extra vigilant and endure that credit card details are not disclosed over the telephone without first verifying the identity of the caller.
“This can be confirmed by asking the caller to provide you with your name, address and advertisement account number.”
