The editor of The Scottish Sun, David Dinsmore, has been promoted by the paper's publishers, News International, to take overall charge of its four daily and Sunday titles in Scotland.
As General Manager, Scotland, he takes charge of The Scottish Sun and the Scottish edition of The Times, plus Sunday sister titles, the Scottish News of the World and the Sunday Times Scotland.
It means a vacancy as Scottish Sun editor, which – says News International – is to merit a separate announcement “shortly”.
Previous incumbents of the GM post include Colin McLatchie and Steven Walker, although their roles were more to do with sales and circulation, while Dinsmore's new posting will involve overseeing editorial.
As reported by allmediascotland, changes to the management and sales structure at News International in Scotland earlier this year saw a number of functions either dispensed with or transferred to Manchester. Since then, the editorial function at Sunday Times Scotland has been scaled down.
Dinsmore will report to William Lewis, group general manager. He first started working at The Scottish Sun two decades ago before going on to become editor of the Scottish News of the World. After a spell working for both The Sun and the NOTW in London, he returned to Glasgow, to succeed Rob Dalton as Scottish Sun editor.
Says Rebekah Brookes, chief executive at News International: “David has done a tremendous job as editor of The Scottish Sun, with sales now well above those of the Daily Record. This is a new senior role and is a well deserved promotion for David.”
Staff were informed of the promotion at 3pm.
