If The Herald is Glasgow's 'quality newspaper' of choice and The Scotsman Edinburgh's, today's front pages of both titles will have left some readers, at least in the capital, perhaps a tad geographically disorientated. While The Edinburgh edition of The Herald opts to lead with a shocking death on Arthur's seat in the city on Sunday, The Scotsman's front page shows an image of a fire in Glasgow's Govan district.
The Scotsman's image of the blaze is dominated by a thick black cloud of smoke while a woman desperately carries her young child in a pram in the foreground. The story – under the headline, 'Locals Flee the Great Fire of Govan' – is continued on page 12 of the paper.
Meanwhile, The Herald carries a large photograph of mountain rescuers yesterday recovering the body of a man on Arthur's Seat, the day after Edinburgh's skies were illuminated by Sunday night's end-of-festival firework's display for which crowds had gathered at Arthur's Seat to enjoy spectacular views of the proceedings.
The Herald accompanies the story with an image of the rescuers, with 'Arthur's Seat Death Horror' as the headline.
The Scotsman briefly covers the story on page 9, while The Herald leaves it to page 5 to report the Govan fire.
