The world's most prestigious exhibition of news photography is opening today at the Scottish Parliament, in Edinburgh.
Holyrood is to host, until the 28th of this month, the 53rd staging of the World Press Photo exhibition, which attracted 101,960 photographs for consideration, from close on 5900 photographers, based in 128 countries.
This is the fifth time the Scottish Parliament has been used by the exhibition organisers, who finally chose the work of 62 photographers, covering war and civil strife, nature, sport and portraiture.
The exhibition is travelling to almost 100 locations around the world but the Scottish Parliament is once again one of only two locations in the UK – and the only Parliament in the world – to display the winning entries.
