NO Scottish newspaper has managed to make it to the shortlist for the coveted Newspaper of the Year prize in awards celebrating the best of the regional press.
Earlier this week, the awards organisers, the National Union of Journalists, revealed the nominees for other categories, such as Columnist of the Year and Photographer of the Year.
The Newspaper of the Year category – announced separately, yesterday – produced seven nominees, including the Cumberland News and The Press, York.
The winners will be announced on Tuesday evening.
The contenders for the Newspaper of Year title are: Cumberland News, Hampstead & Highgate Express, Irish News, The News, Portsmouth; Nottingham Post, The Press, York; and Yorkshire Evening Post.
Said NUJ general secretary, Jeremy Dear: “This was a particularly hard category for our judges to shortlist. The quality of journalism throughout our local and regional titles is outstanding.”
