THE publisher of The Scotsman, Scotland on Sunday and Edinburgh Evening News newspapers is seeking between ten and 12 production journalists to apply for voluntary redundancy, due to planned implementation of a new editorial production system.
With management now entering a period of consultation over the proposed job cuts, a meeting of members of the National Union of Journalists is due for Monday afternoon.
The new system, Atex, is understood to provide a more efficient way of publishing content to the web than the current editorial production system. It is due to be implemented at the end of June.
The editorial production staff believed to be most at risk are sub-editors, page builders and sports production staff.
It is understood that, across the three titles, there are roughly 28 full-time subs, six full-time page builders and nine full-time sports production staff.
