THE Sunday Herald is one of just two newspapers to have registered an increase in sales in Scotland between February last year and last month, the other being the Scottish News of the World which has, uniquely, been enjoying a sales surge for some time.
While the Sunday Herald’s year-on-year sales increase may be 1.3 per cent, it represents a significant reverse compared to this time last year when its year-on-year performance was 12 per cent down.
The figures read, across the board, as follows:
Scottish Daily Mirror (26,018 in February 2010 versus 28,096 in February 2009, down 2,078 or 7.4 per cent), Daily Record (306,350 versus 326,004, down 19,654 or six per cent), Daily Star of Scotland (82,865 versus 85,865, down 2,793 or 3.2 per cent), Scottish Sun (354,468 versus 369,145, down 14,677 or four per cent), and Scottish Daily Express (67,289 versus 71,286, down 3,997 or 5.6 per cent).
Scottish Daily Mail (115,000 versus 121,113, down 6,113 or five per cent), Daily Telegraph (20,800 versus 22,755, down 1,955 or 8.59 per cent), Financial Times (4184 versus 4,972, down 788 or 15.8 per cent), The Herald (55,519 versus 59,933, down 4,414 or 7.36 per cent), The Guardian (14,216 versus 15,478, down 1,262 or 8.15 per cent), and The Independent (7,368 versus 8711, down 1,343 or 15.4 per cent).
The Scotsman (44,553 versus 48,073, down 3,520 or 7.3 per cent), The Times (23,594 versus 27,765, down 4,336 or 15.6 per cent), Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday (27,429 versus 27,849, down 336 or 1.2 per cent), Scottish News of the World (281,552 versus 269,622, up 11,930 or 4.42 per cent), and Sunday Mail (373,758 versus 408,563, down 34,805 or 8.5 per cent).
Scottish Sunday Mirror (23,293 versus 25,139, down 1,846 or 7.3 per cent), The People (13,979 versus 17,799, down 3,820 or 21.5 per cent), Scottish Sunday Express (36,768 versus 41,187, down 4,419 or 10.7 per cent), Sunday Post (234,165 versus 251,418, down 17,253 or 6.8 per cent), and Scottish Mail on Sunday (97,836 versus 108,683, down 10,847 or ten per cent).
Independent on Sunday (6129 versus 8010, down 1881 or 23.5 per cent), The Observer (19,340 versus 21,597, down 2257 or 10.4 per cent), Scotland on Sunday (55,327 versus 59,365, down 4,038 or 6.8 per cent) and Sunday Herald (41,796 versus 41,249, up 547 or 1.3 per cent).
Sunday Telegraph (18,164 versus 19,203, down 1,039 or 5.4 per cent) and Sunday Times Scotland (63,915 versus 70,485, down 6,570 or 9.3 per cent).
