A SUCCESSOR to Donald Martin, as editor-in-chief of The Herald group of newspapers, is now being formally sought by the papers’ publishers.
In an advert on its own jobs website, the group says the deadline for applications is the 28th of next month.
The move follows news that Martin is to become the editor of The Sunday Post.
The Herald group also includes the Sunday Herald and the Evening Times.
The advert begins: “This is a high profile role with the responsibility of providing editorial direction to a team of more than 200 journalists and editorial staff across three prestigious Scottish titles – The Herald, Sunday Herald and Evening Times.
“You must be an experienced editor and manager and have a sound knowledge of all aspects of a modern newspaper. You will be a proven team player and should understand and embrace the challenges of a multi-media industry ensuring that effective strategies are implemented to meet the requirements of our print and online readership, whilst ensuring optimum use of our resources.”
It continues: “You will have strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to analyse and convey concepts and ideas in a clear and concise manner. Also to act as an ambassador for the company and establish good working relationships with key stakeholders in Scotland.
“You will possess highly developed inter-personal and people management skills and be able to demonstrate a significant track record of leading teams and managing people in a change environment.
“In the first instance you should outline briefly why you think you should be interviewed for the role along with your vision for the papers’ future development.”
