THE Scottish Sun newspaper has slightly widened its sales lead over its nearest rival, the Daily Record, in the battle to be the top-selling daily newspaper in Scotland.
Say the January ABCs, the gap – as measured by Average Net Circulation – between sales in Scotland of the Sun and the Record, was 42,023. In December, it was 39,345; in November, it was 42,220; and in October, it was 43,606.
In January, the Scottish Sun’s average daily sale in Scotland was 351,869 (compared to 340,237 in December), as opposed to the Daily Record’s 309,846 (compared to 300,892 in December).
Meanwhile, the average sale in Scotland for the country’s biggest-selling newspaper, the Sunday Mail, was 378,321. In December, it was 370,558; in November, it was 375,347; and in October, it was 384,345.
Average Net Circulation figures include free give-aways. The figures were released on Friday.
The majority of newspapers enjoyed a sales rise in January compared to December.
