FRONT page puffs above the masthead (when previously they were below), straplines in brightly-coloured bars, a mix of serif and sans serif fonts for the headlines (the former from its Sunday sister title), a busy world news page opposite a strong opinion page (maybe too busy, the pages combined?), the front page briefing down the right-hand side, no longer the left… The Herald newspaper got itself a new look today.
Likely to be met with approval by most readers, the new-look certainly feels crisper; sections are boldly promoted, with the masthead typeface also appearing above the arts and business sections.
Says a short piece below the leader column: “We have introduced some design changes to your Herald, aimed at freshening the appearance of Scotland’s leading quality newspaper.
“We now share a family of headline fonts with our sister newspaper, the Sunday Herald, we have created a new-look arts section and we have extended our opinion section to allow more space for letters and to introduce some new regular features. We hope you like the changes and WANT to hear your opinions.
