A NEW award – recognising an individual’s outstanding contribution to the Scottish magazine industry – is to be handed out next week at an annual celebration of the best of Scottish magazines.
The inaugural Murray Cochran Award will be presented on Thursday evening at a gala ceremony being organised by the Scottish division of the UK-wide Periodical Publishers Association.
Says PPA Scotland, the new award takes its name from two printers who joined forces to launch the world’s oldest surviving periodical, The Scots Magazine, in January 1739.
Now owned and published by DC Thomson in Dundee, The Scots Magazine format has remained mostly unchanged for more than 270 years.
