THE editor of The Sunday Post newspaper is stepping down, after almost nine years in the job.
David Pollington has worked with Sunday Post publishers, DC Thomson, for over 42 years and – says the company – he is taking early retirement at the end of this month.
In a statement issued by the company, Pollington is quoted, as saying: “After 40 years on The Sunday Post, and nearly nine as editor, I feel it is time to hand over the reins to someone else to tackle the challenges facing the paper, the firm and the newspaper industry in general.
“I’m proud to have been part of the team that took the paper to unique heights in 1974 when the circulation was 1.7 million and we had an entry in the Guinness Book of Records.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with DC Thomson and wish them and The Sunday Post every success for the future. Meantime, I am looking forward to reclaiming my weekends and spending more time with my wife and young family.”
Pollington is a member of the Press Complaints Commission’s Editors’ Code Committee which draws up the Code of Practice enforced by the PCC.
Added DC Thomson chair, Mr Andrew Thomson: “The directors and I would like to thank David for his tremendous contribution to the company.
“He has been a key member of The Sunday Post team for many years and, in his years as editor, has been responsible for developing the paper and keeping it at the forefront of Sunday reading for millions of readers. The board are sorry to see David departing but he goes with our very best wishes.”
