MORE than 100 jobs are at risk of being axed at the print works that turns out The Scotsman, according to a news report on the BBC website.
Says the BBC, The Scotsman’s publishers, Johnston Press have told staff they intended to move printing of their flagship papers – from its “ageing” Newhaven Road plant in Edinburgh to Glasgow.
It says The Scotsman and its sister title, Scotland on Sunday, will be printed at Trinity Mirrror’s Cardonald print works, which prints Trinity Mirror’s Daily Record and Sunday Mail newspapers.
And it goes on to say that almost 40 other titles will go to a print plant in Sunderland, with the Stornoway Gazette to be printed in Cardonald and the Edinburgh Evening News, Falkirk Herald and Fife Free Press to be produced in the News International plant at Eurocentral in Lanarkshire, where the Scottish Sun and The Times are printed.
Continues the BBC report, the deal with Trinity Mirror will also see The Scotsman and Scotland on Sunday printed in Birmingham, improving its access to newsagents throughout the southern part of England.
