LAWYER, Imogen Haddon’s appointment as managing editor of The Independent may have
taken journalists by surprise.
As MediaGuardian reported yesterday: “Traditionally, the managing editor job on a national paper, which involves liaising with staff over pay and budgets, has been filled by a senior journalist but Simon Kelner, the Independent editor, has decided to go for someone with a legal background.”
But Spike can reveal that a Scottish journalist already has knowledge of Ms Haddon’s hidden talents. For she is the girlfriend of Stephen Khan, former Scotland editor of The Observer.
Khan has recently been assisting the Independent on Sunday move from broadsheet to compact size.
But as Spike reported only the other day, he is leaving ‘Indy towers’ to set up a London bureau for the Scottish media consultancy, McGarvie Morrison Media.
Nice timing, Stephen. After all, who’d want the same boss at work and at home?
