AN established, popular feature of local newspapers is being deployed by the Edinburgh Evening News to make today’s edition the biggest in living memory.
Of its 152 pages, 88 will be taken up with First Class – a supplement with photos of 178 primary one classes from 93 Edinburgh schools; in other words, almost all of the state, private and special schools in the capital.
The initiative was teed up in yesterday’s edition, across the top of page three, as part of a massive marketing campaign, through schools and elsewhere, that has already led to thousands of pre-orders for the paper.
P1 photos have not been a feature of the Evening News for years, if ever. And the revenue generated from anticipated photo sales is to be split between the paper and the schools.
The massive logistical exercise included three freelance photographers – Jim Carroll, Scott Louden and Randi Stodle – plus the paper’s marketing and special reports teams.
