A REVIEW of the way The Press and Journal and Dundee Courier newspapers operate is expected following appointments announced by their publisher, DC Thomson.
Allan Scott and David Thomson have been appointed joint managing directors of a newly-identified specific division of the company: newspapers.
Scott is currently MD of Aberdeen Journals, bought by DC Thomson three years ago.
The integrated business will include The Courier, The Evening Telegraph, The Sunday Post, The Press and Journal, The Evening Express, The Aberdeen Citizen and Scot Ads.
One title, however, will be instead developed within DC Thomson’s Consumer Entertainment business unit: The Weekly News.
Says a memo to staff: “As a result of the credit crunch, as well as the pace of change in our industries, the board has been reviewing the way that the business operates.
“It is vital that the business is not only organised to provide a robust defence to the current difficult market conditions but also that we put ourselves in the best position to drive the business forward when the recession eases.
“Newspapers have been the cornerstone of our business for generations and are vital to its future success. It is therefore wholly appropriate that in building our long-term strategy, we start that change in the newspaper area.”
Scott will remain as MD of Aberdeen Journals while Thomson will take over responsibility for The Courier, The Evening Telegraph and The Sunday Post.
