WELCOME to Media Movers, reporting moves within the Scots media scene, including promotions and retirements.
And congratulations to both Kie Miskelly and Craig Galloway, on the former’s retirement as editor of the Scots editor of the Metro newspaper, and to the latter – as his successor.
For Kie, it’s retirement following 49 years in newspapers; starting at the Penrith Observer (on January 8, 1968), then at the News&Star, Carlisle, followed by three years in South Africa on Weekend World.
He then joined The Journal, Newcastle, before moving to The Northern Echo, Darlington, Evening Gazette, Middlesbrough and Evening Chronicle, Newcastle.
He became chief sub of the Evening Advertiser in Swindon, before being appointed editor of the Whitley Bay Guardian, North Shields and Wallsend Weekly News and he launched the Blyth and Ashington News Post Leader free newspaper during the early 1980s.
After five years, he moved across the Tyne to become editor of the oldest evening newspaper in England, the Shields Gazette. Five years on from that he was headhunted for the editor’s job at the Peterborough Evening Telegraph.
Then it was back to the north-east as Night Editor of The Journal, before heading to Scotland to join the Scottish Daily Express.
And finally, 17 years ago, he joined the Metro and became Scottish editor a few months later.
Craig Galloway, who joined Metro in 2000, is stepping up from sports editor to become Metro Scotland editor.
Stuart Ross moves into the role of Metro Scotland night editor and Brendan Croft becomes Metro Scotland sports editor.
