FOR at least the third, successive month, the year-on-year average circulations in Scotland of both The Times and The Financial Times newspapers have increased, according to official figures.
Says newspapers auditing body, ABC, the average circulation in Scotland of The Times during last month was 19,868 – up 8.9 per cent on the average of 18,243 during October last year.
Meanwhile, the corresponding figure for the FT was a 4.5 per cent increase, from an average 2,279 during October last year to 2,382 12 months on.
But for The Times, the sales increase represents the latest, impressive results during these last several months.
In summary, ABC figures read, as follows:
Daily Mirror – 18,8 per cent drop = from 16,587 on average during October last year, to 13,471 last month;
Daily Record – 10.2 per cent drop = from 196,249 on average during October last year, to 176,123 last month;
Daily Star of Scotland – 4.7 per cent drop = 40,055 to 38,179;
The Scottish Sun – 7.8 per cent drop = 233,026 to 214,769;
Scottish Daily Express – 11.5 per cent drop = 46,122 to 40,791;
Scottish Daily Mail – 3.4 per cent drop = 90,021 to 86,958;
Daily Telegraph – 5.1 per cent drop = 17,149 to 16,270;
Financial Times – 4.5 cent up = 2,279 to 2,382;
The Guardian – 7.3 per cent drop = 9,408 to 8,715;
i – 7.2 per cent drop = 18,039 to 16,739;
Independent – 10.2 per cent drop = 2,625 to 2,358; and
The Times – 8.9 per cent up = 18,243 to 19,868
Meanwhile, the Sunday titles’ sales figures in Scotland were as follows:
Daily Star of Scotland – Sunday – 3.9 per cent down = 21,841 to 20,992;
The Scottish Sun – Sunday – 5.6 per cent down = 171,099 to 161,485;
Sunday Mail – 9.2 per cent down = 219,267 to 195,011;
Sunday Mirror – 27.2 per cent down = 16,551 to 12,041;
The People – 19 per cent down = 8,964 to 7,262;
Scottish Mail on Sunday – 5.3 per cent down = 78,603 to 74,410;
Scottish Sunday Express – 11.4 per cent down = 26,383 to 23,365;
The Sunday Post – 14.8 per cent down = 149,809 to 127,589;
Independent on Sunday – 10.1 per cent down = 5,418 to 4,869;
The Observer – four per cent down = 12,895 to 12,382;
Sunday Telegraph – 8.7 per cent down = 15,137 to 13,820; and
Sunday Times – 1.5 per cent down = 43,350 to 42,715.
