BEGINS the website, Wikipedia (here): “The Rum Diary is a 2011 American film based on the novel of the same name by Hunter S. Thompson. The film was written and directed by Bruce Robinson and stars Johnny Depp. Filming began in Puerto Rico in March 2009. It was released on October 28, 2011.”
Perhaps no surprise, the character played by Depp – Paul Kemp – is both charismatic and chaotic, not entirely alone in often being very, very drunk.
As neatly summed up by the website, IMDb (here): “American journalist, Paul Kemp, takes on a freelance job in Puerto Rico for a local newspaper during the 1960s and struggles to find a balance between island culture and the expatriates who live there.”
